Testimonials
“A relaxing atmosphere, comfortable rooms and delicious food. What more could you ask for? Well next year we will be adding a night to our stay because we love it at Brentwood on the Beach and the quiet time we get to knit, read, and walk on the beach. And to add to our enjoyment are the evenings with the authors learning about writing books and meeting the people who do. We look forward to our knitting weekend retreat. We only wish it were longer.”

But when the village’s bullying zoning commissioner picks a fight with Willow and turns up dead in Willow’s yard, the close-knit community starts unraveling at the seams. ![]() ![]() Yvonne ReynoldsThe Author Yvonne Reynolds grew up in Huron County. She began writing while in Ottawa and was a regular contributor to the Saturday Section of the Ottawa Journal. The Reynolds returned to Huron County in 1974 settling on six acres shared with an assortment of creatures whose comical conduct inspired a series of columns which have recently been reprinted, and now published as “The Funny Farm”. The latter section is titled “The Funny Farmers”. Apparently bizarre behaviour is contagious! This book displays different layers for different readers. The most obvious layer is the gentle humour of farming greenhorns coping with the new adventures in hobby farming. Another reader can find a respect and great appreciation of the author for the admirable spirit and ingenuity of many animals. The specially commissioned pieces of art that accompany every chapter can tell a story all on their own for a quick read. This beautiful artwork extant is a treat by itself. Yvonne’s gentle portrayal of difficulties and resolution thereof that occur in most successful marriages give another dimension in the latter part of the book.

The Illustrator Patti Armstrong’s drawings are a priceless addition to The Funny Farm. Although she had never done illustrations for a book before, she is very artistic and creative, winning prizes for her unique hooked rug designs, commissioned to paint theme headboards for a restaurant-inn, and using her talents as part of her job on the staff of South Huron Community Living’s Adult Resource Centre in Dashwood. This project brought out her latent genius in this field. She was introduced to Yvonne Reynolds by Bruce Shaw, Executive Director of South Huron Community Living.

Darlene Coddlefield, the winner of a national sewing competition, has come to Willow Vanderling’s embroidery shop, In Stitches, to be presented with a top-of-the-line Chandler Champion sewing and embroidery machine as her prize. But Darlene’s triumph is short-lived after she’s found dead under her sewing table, apparently crushed by the heavy machine.
