Something to be Proud of!
St. Joseph and Area Historical Society presented “Narcisse” and was awarded the Governor General’s Award for Excellence in Community Programming
Joan and Pat Rowe were chosen to accept this prestigious award from the Governor General at Rideau Hall in Ottawa on behalf of the Society. The delegation included Liz Ihrig from the Society, Paul Ciufo, Playwright, Duncan McGregor, Director and Karen Stewart, Project Co-ordinator. It was an incredible experience!
Considered the Father of the St. Lawrence Seaway, Narcisse Cantin was a charismatic promoter and extraordinary salesman. In the early 1900s, Cantin transformed the tiny village of St. Joseph into a boomtown as he attempted to revolutionize transportation in North America. Narcisse envisioned St. Joseph blossoming into a city at one end of a mammoth canal cutting through Southwestern Ontario and connecting Lake Huron and Lake Erie.
DVD’s of the play are available at the Front Desk for $10.00
