The Huron Historic Gaol |

Is a unique and imposing octagonal building which
served as the county jail from its opening in
1842 until 1972 when all inmates were transferred
to regional facilities. The Gaol is designated
a National Historic Site. The building originally
housed the county courts and counsel chambers,
as well as serving as gaol and house of refuge.

The history of St. Joseph is told through narrative
and pictorial signage. The park began with a request
from Brother Andre, known healer and founder of
the famed oratory of St. Joseph in Montreal. Visit
the park and read the fascinating story of Narcisse
Cantin, father of the St. Lawrence Seaway. Located
½ mile north of Brentwood on the Beach

This is one of seven such railway schools used
as a highly successful method of reaching and
teaching the isolated children and adults of the
northern Ontario wilderness earlier this century.
Located in the beautiful park named after Clinton
native Fred Sloman, the “Dean of School
Teachers”. He taught and lived with his
family in this traveling school from 1926-1965
bringing reading and writing skills to Canada’s
north. Located at 76 Victoria Terrace, Clinton,

the Beach). |
